harrington now in downtown oakland to show us some of the damage on this monday. >> reporter: good morning. a broken bottle on the ground paint splashed on the glass and just about every, single window broken. other buildings suffered similar damage including city hall following an antiwar rally. about 200 demonstrators met at frank ogawa plaza for a march through downtown to mark the 11th anniversary of the start of the war in afghanistan. by 8:15 they dispersed. then there was vandalism on various buildings in the area. oakland residents are fed up with this type of behavior that costs the city money. >> it doesn't make any sense. the bank doesn't have anything to do with the war. oakland has enough budget problems that this creates more problems in oakland when oakland is not the place make the decisions. they need to gowashington or to go to washington or other areas. >> reporter: there is a lot of clean-up to do. elissa harrington, cbs 5. >>> police in san francisco arresting 20 -- arresting 20 people over the weekend after vandalism on saturday afternoon. officers were hit by flares,

. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran has more on the connection to a bay area rapper and she joins us with the latest. cate. >> reporter: frank, michelle, that is right. our sources tell us that the driver that the police are looking for is an oakland rapper with possibly gang ties. that's just what we're learning a few moments ago. we have video of that crash. so you can see right now the whole thing started because of a minor traffic violation. officers say that they tried to pull over a car because of a broken license plate. they say it started around 2 a.m. a few blocks from where we are at ellis and laguna. that's where officers flashed their lights at the suspects and police say the car appeared to pull over and then took off then quickly stopped and officers heard shots fired and stopped their car. the suspects' car then sped away. by the time police caught up to them the suspect car crashed into a cab and after that crash, they say that the suspects took off. >> don't know why they ran, maybe because they had a gun in a car? they could be wanted. we don't know who the driver i

caugiran joins us. cate, i hear those business owners have got some tough news this morning, right? >> reporter: yes, that's right. i actually spoke to a couple of them still here sort of watching firefighters. as you can see, they are on scene hosing down making sure there are no hot spots. and that everything is in fact all clear but it is going to be a long day of clean-up for firefighters and these business owners after that massive fire tore through about 10 businesses. >> a master by called about 1:05 this morning and crews were it spread really quickly. firefighters tried to keep their work going and thatic came crashing down. i spoke with a couple of business owners standing by and they say it wasn't already tough economic times, this makes it worse. >> when i came here, i saw the fire at the corner and then spread from this side up to that side. >> as a precaution, firefighters evacuated a nearby apartment complex. but we hear that they are all back home right now. we heard earlier also one firefighter was injured. he suffered major cuts to the back of his hand and has be

. >> during the firefight, there was a collapse of the roof and second floor which resulted in us backing out of the building and fighting the fire defensively. this is where we put our ladder trucks and spray water from the temperatures to of the roof and hose lines into the windows -- water from the tops of the roof and hose lines into the windows. >> reporter: part of the roof collapsed falling on the first story. but firefighters pulled back before that happened. nobody was hurt. now, there was some talk that maybe a propane tank may have been involved in starting this fire. firefighters will not confirm that this morning. they say once they're sure all the hot spots are out in this house, then they will start their investigation into the cause. live in berkeleys anne makovec, cbs 5. >> thank you. >>> new this morning, more gun violence in san jose. police are investigating two late night shootings. a man was wounded near ezie and kass drive about 11:30 last night. 15 minutes later another man showed up at a hospital after he had been shot. both victims are expected to survive. no suspect
you tell us. >> reporter: i can tell you that the fire started in the squat and gobble popular restaurant here in san francisco. crews are busy battling flames. there's heavy smoke in the air. this restaurant is completely gutted. it is a complete loss for the building here. i can see already dozens of firefighters here on scene trying to tackle this fire. they have been at it for quite a while. crews say that they got the call right at around 4:00, 4:14 this morning and the fire quickly grew to three alarms. flames were shooting up as high as 10 to 20 feet. heavy smoke in the area and now they have set up a perimeter here along west portal. they have shut down as i was talking about that tunnel over here now. as far as the firefighting efforts are concerned, we are about to get an update from the public information officer to learn more. what i can tell you right now is there are a lot of confused people out here especially morning commuters as they are trying to figure out alternative ways to get to work. we spoke with somebody from muni a couple of minutes ago who said they
reporter cate caugiran has the latest. she joins us with the latest. >> reporter: actually i did mention it earlier. the mission district is where they are looking for the suspects. the good news is there are no injuries reported so far. you can take a look at the damage done to one officer's car. san francisco police say this all started at 1:0 this morning when an undercover officer was shot at multiple times from the moving car. the police department says there were three suspects inside. three suspects jumped out of the car. the officer caught up with one suspect and then pd at the time set up a perimeter to try and find the other two. as far as we know, those two suspects are still outstanding and they are currently looking for them at this point. the investigation is under way. we are hoping to get more information as the story develops later on this morning. live in the mission district, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >> thank you. two women are under arrest after a shooting outside the plant shopping center in san jose. police say two men and a woman were in the parking lot just before 3
